Afrocubism: From Afro-Cuban or Cubism? The contemporary schools of painting have changed our world views towards art fundamentally, and you can be writing essays for college in any paper formatting to prove this fact. The avant-garde movement made people not only observe and admire the pictures, but try to see the painters’ ideas and thoughts that are hidden in their masterpieces. If you’ve ever tried to understand the works of the artists of the cubism movement, then, you know that it’s a hard task though very interesting. However, I offer you to explore another kind of the cubism, called Afrocubism at the Paleo Festival Nyon 2011. You could say that it was impossible because the Paleo Festival Nyon 2011 was an event of the music world. So, what? I don’t offer you to observe the pictures of the artists. I’d like you to listen to the music of the band, called Afrocubism . Though the name of the band has the word “cubism”, is derived from the Afro-Cuban theme the musicians have been following. We could enjoy and appreciate the teamwork of Eliades Ochoa, Bassekou Kouyaté, Toumani Diabaté and others at the Paleo Festival Nyon 2011 . Personally, I think, the music of the band still had some features of cubism. The first sounds of their works though being very clear didn’t create a melody, they were abstract and detached. After a while, these sounds were enriched with the sounds of the other instruments and began creating the whole picture that represented a mixture of the traditional African and Cuban atmosphere. |
